Jamestown (October 28, 2025) – This past spring graduating Jamestown High School (JHS) or the Jamestown-BJA (formerly Jamestown North) seniors has another new scholarship offering through Jamestown Dollars for Scholars. The $1,000 Tom Gould Scholarship was established to recognize a hard-working senior who intends to play baseball at the collegiate level and is named after lifelong JHS teacher and coach, Tom Gould.
Tom’s children, Jeff Gould and Tessa Gould presented Jamestown Dollars for Scholars with a $1,000 check. Tessa shared, "Our Dad has instilled an appreciation for community and fitness in my brother and me through our lifetimes. He has led us by word and action. After being approached, we agreed the opportunity to help young Blue Jays continue collegiate baseball by providing this scholarship, was a wonderful way to honor his love of the sport, high school and town which all mean so much to him."
Tom Gould graduated from Jamestown High School in 1967. He returned to his alma mater to teach social studies. He was the first ever girls’ basketball coach for Jamestown High School in 1973 and lead the 1974 team to its first state championship. Gould was inducted into the inaugural Jamestown Athletic Hall of Fame class in 2017. The state championship team was the first team to be inducted into the Jamestown High School Hall of Fame in 2019.
Casey Stoudt, board member and Gould’s JHS classmate, accepted the check on behalf of Jamestown Dollars for Scholars. He shared, "We are extremely grateful that the family chose to honor their dad with this scholarship. Tom is all about helping youth. It will help a deserving student pursue their dream of playing baseball at the collegiate level and pursuing higher education."
