About Sunward Steel Buildings
Family-owned and American-made for over 50 years. We design, engineer, and manufacture fully custom steel buildings delivered to every state in the U.S. and across Canada - aircraft hangars, industrial facilities, arenas, agricultural buildings, self-storage complexes, barndominiums, and more. No two projects are alike, and that is exactly how we like it.

Our mission is to fulfill our customers' visions into structures that last generations. We do that by hiring people who care about doing it right. We are not a temp agency or a revolving door - we are building a team that stays, grows, and builds careers here.
The Opportunity
We are hiring welders to join our Jamestown, ND manufacturing team. This is a full-time, stable, Monday through Friday position where your work goes into real structures that stand for generations. If you take pride in quality craftsmanship and want to work somewhere that invests in its people, we want to talk to you. Starting pay is based on your experience and skills - strong candidates can expect placement well above the entry rate. We have a defined advancement path with clear criteria, so you know exactly what it takes to move up and earn more.
What You Will Do
  • Set up and operate MIG, flux-core, and/or stick welding equipment to perform tack welds, structural welds, and finish welds on steel components
  • Clean and prepare steel beams and components prior to welding - removing oil, rust, scale, and other contaminants to ensure proper weld quality
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols to execute fabrication assignments accurately
  • Fabricate, cut, fit, and assemble structural steel components using hand tools, cutting equipment, grinders, and shop machinery
  • Inspect your own work against quality standards and correct defects before parts move to the next stage
  • Follow all safety rules, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements - every time, no exceptions
  • Support your crew and pitch in across the production floor when the team needs it to meet customer deadlines - overtime may be required during peak production periods
  • Help onboard new welders as a mentor and buddy as you gain experience
What We Are Looking For
We hire welders at all experience levels. Here is what matters most to us:
  • Hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or construction environment
  • Ability to set up and operate welding equipment and work safely around the machinery
  • Can read a tape measure, do basic math with fractions, and follow shop drawings
  • Shows up, stays focused, and takes ownership of the quality of their work
  • Team player who communicates and helps the crew succeed
AWS certification, structural welding experience, or PEMB/steel building background are a plus - but not required to get started. If you have the fundamentals and the right attitude, we will invest in your development.
Pay and Benefits
  • $22.00 - $37.00/hr - placement based on your experience and skills
  • +$2.00/hr shift differential for 2nd shift
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Group Life Insurance and AD&D - 100% company-paid
  • Long-Term Disability - 100% company-paid
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • 128 hours of Paid Time Off
  • 8 paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Career Growth
At Sunward, advancement is based on what you can do - not just how long you have been here. We have a structured path from entry-level through senior welder and Lead Welder, with defined pay increases at each step. Your supervisor will work with you on a development plan and nominate you for advancement when you are ready. High performers who develop leadership skills have a path to Lead Welder and beyond. We promote from within and we mean it - several members of our current production leadership started on the floor.
