Jamestown (September 29, 2026) – Jamestown Dollars for Scholars (DFS) announced Vets Club Inc. has newly endowed a scholarship which will be awarded for the first time in the spring of 2027 to a graduating Jamestown High School or the Jamestown-BJA (formerly Jamestown North) senior. The Vets Club Inc. Scholarship will award $1,000 to a student who has an immediate family member with a military or law enforcement affiliation or is pursuing post-secondary education in a healthcare field.
The local chapter was presented with a $20,000 check to endow this scholarship. Individuals interested in endowing a scholarship can do so for an investment of $20,000, which can be paid in full or installments of $5,000 over four years. Kristi Grounds can be contacted at the Central Office at 952-1950 for more information.
Cheryl Lee, secretary/treasurer of the Vets Club board, shared, “We are proud to be part of an organization that cares about those who served and wants to support the young people that are important to them. This scholarship is one small way we can encourage students as they take the next step in their lives. We hope it reminds them that their community supports their future goals.”
The Vets Club Inc. was founded in 1998. It is located in the Stutsman County War Memorial building and it provides meeting and social facilities for veterans, their families, and several community service organizations, as well as the Jamestown Drum and Bugle Corps, Jamestown Patriotic Council, DAV, VFW, American Legion and their Auxiliaries, and Ft. Seward. The club is open to all in the community and the restaurant and lounge is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Accepting the donation on behalf of Jamestown Dollars for Scholars was Elaine Hegland, board member. Hegland said, “We are incredibly grateful to the Vets Club Inc. for establishing this scholarship. Supporting an immediate family member of those who serve in the military or law enforcement, or additionally a student pursuing a career in healthcare, is a meaningful investment in our community and the people who dedicate their lives to serving others.”
